Savannah 9 weeks old 9/16/13 (before her ears were cropped)
We got Savannah when she was 8 weeks old. She was so cute and tiny!! She loved to cuddle and hated to be left alone. Each morning my 3 year old son and I would go out and train and play with Savannah when the older kids left for school. She learned very quickly and loved the attention. She has a very dominant personality and we would consistently teach her to not jump on the kids. Jumping is one way dogs show dominance. So, we knew this would not be good for a Doberman who already has tendencies for being the alpha or dominant dog. As Savannah grew we took her lots of places: The mountains-- where we found she was a little scared of water. Our old Black Lab would run and jump in the water of any river or lake because he loves to swim. This would make Savannah nervous and she would stand on the shore and whine until he was done swimming and got out. Soon however, Savannah learned that swimming wasn't nearly as bad as she thought!! :) She doesn't enjoy swimming as much as our Black Lab, but she does swim quite often. Another place we often took our little Doberman was to our sons junior high football games. The reason for this was the amount of people she would encounter. Every kid at the game would come running up to pet and play with her. It was great FREE training for Savannah! :) We had been told that you should expose dogs to as many new places, people, and experiences as you can while they're young so they don't have as much anxiety over new experiences. We took Savannah to the park, the vet, and for walks around town. We took Savannah to my husbands work where there is a steep long stairway leading to the top of the building. We learned that those stairs were a little scary for her to go up but coming down..... she WAS PETRIFIED!! So, we slowly spent time taking her up and down the stairs until she learned to climb and decend them on her own.
Savannah September, 2013 (after her ears were cropped)
Many people believe Dobermans are not good family dogs. Well, we have 7 people in our family, 5 of which are children. Savannah loves and plays with the children. Savannah is not the least bit scared of any human nor has she ever acted aggressive towards anyone. Savannah loves to play with the kids and spends hours outside with them all summer. She runs around the trampoline and watches them jump. She has races across the yard with them and sits next to them so they will pet her. She LOVES people!! There are plenty of people that are scared of her because she's a Doberman. Some people interpret Doberman Pinscher to mean scary, but she's NOT scary!! However, when we let our 12 year old daughter walk the river walk with Savannah and no one else, we feel secure knowing that Savannah's very presence seems to make people give us a wide berth when Savannah's with us!! Which honestly isn't all bad!!! :) And of course if the situation got scary I think Savannah would step up and be protective which as a mother I'm grateful for that added protection my children have because of Savannah.

Savannah is now almost 2 years old. She comes from an amazing European champion line of Doberman Pinschers. We will soon be breeding her to another amazing European line of Doberman Pinschers. Her puppies should be here about mid June!!! Yay!! We can't wait to see what cute puppies she will have!
